ഇന്ന് -സെപ്തംബർ 29 - ലോക ഹൃദയ ദിനം!

16 വർഷങ്ങൾക്കുമുൻപ് ചെന്നൈ പെരമ്പൂർ റെയിൽവേ ആശുപത്രിയിൽ അടുത്ത ദിവസം നടക്കാനിരുന്ന ഹൃദയരോഗസംബന്ധിയായ പരിശോധനയ്ക്ക് -ആൻജിയോഗ്രാം- തയ്യാറായി കിടക്കുന്ന വേളയിൽ, അന്നത്തെ ഒരു പ്രത്യേക മാനസികാവസ്ഥയിൽ എഴുതിയ കവിത ഇവിടെ പുന:പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്യുന്നു:

PRAISE THE HEART

[Today, i.e. 29th September is World Heart Day- I am sharing this poem written some 16 years ago, in the Perambur Railway Hospital, Chennai waiting for my Angiogram to be conducted the next day.]

Oh, my heart, It's the D-day for you-

For today, they come to check your condition.

You have worked relentlessly,

With single minded devotion;

Without a break or block,

All these years, a lifetime.

Your reliability is being questioned;

Your capacity is being put to test;

Your longevity is being measured;

Your infallibility is being challenged.

They may find some weak spots;

They may find some cracks or holes;

Or some 'block' here and there;

And conclude that it’s a broken heart.

Never mind their judgements;

For they are just doing their duty;

I am with you at this hour of crisis-

To console you and to keep company with.

Take my words as true, my friend;

I will not disown you, come what may.

Go on ticking till the last moment,

For you are the part and parcel of my 'self.

OH, MY POOR HEART!
